Jesus Delivered Seven Specific Condemnations of the Pharisees. Then the Most Prominent Voice in His Movement Introduced Himself as a Pharisee. Read That Sentence Again. BYDIESEL THE MAGUS · EFIRE TEMPLE · THE OLDEST FLAME There is a passage in Matthew 23 that most Christians have read and almost none have fully absorbed. It is not ambiguous. It is not subtle. It is the longest, most concentrated verbal attack Jesus delivers against any group in the entire Synoptic record — seven specific condemnations, addressed directly and publicly to the Pharisees and scribes, in the Temple, in front of crowds and disciples, days before his death. He calls them hypocrites seven times. He calls them blind guides. He calls them whitewashed tombs — clean on the outside, full of dead bones inside.
